Celebrating Freedom and Resilience Juneteenth

On June 19, our nation observes Juneteenth, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States and honoring the resilience, achievements, and contributions of African Americans.

Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned of their freedom—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Today, communities across the country celebrate through festivals, music, education, service, and cultural events while reflecting on the ongoing pursuit of freedom, justice, and belonging.

The MultiFaith Council will be participating in Toledo's Juneteenth Community United celebration at Promenade Park on Friday, June 19 from 3:00–5:00 p.m. featuring food trucks, a community resource fair, and family activities. A downtown parade will begin at 1:00 p.m. We hope you'll stop by and celebrate with us.

Visit Destination Toledo for more information about Juneteenth celebrations in the Toledo metro area.
